In a significant advancement for the commercial space industry, Beijing has officially unveiled a satellite internet industrial park and granted licenses to eight key laboratories. This announcement was made during the Beijing Commercial Space High-quality Development Conference, which took place in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, commonly known as Beijing E-Town, concluding on Wednesday.
The conference primarily aimed at implementing major projects and accelerating the high-quality growth of China’s commercial space sector. The newly established satellite internet industrial park is set to capitalize on Beijing E-Town’s strong aerospace industry and its emerging new-type industries. This initiative is expected to foster the development of satellite internet projects and establish a comprehensive industrial chain encompassing satellite internet research and intelligent manufacturing.
In addition to the industrial park, the eight key laboratories will focus on cutting-edge fields such as aerospace vehicle design, satellite internet applications, and satellite interconnection and control. These laboratories are designed to cultivate top talent and drive technological innovation within the industry.
Beijing E-Town is already home to over 160 aerospace companies, including more than 70 national high-tech firms. Notably, 16 of these companies are ranked among China’s top 100 commercial space enterprises, highlighting the area’s pivotal role in the nation’s aerospace ambitions.
This strategic move is anticipated to enhance China’s capabilities in the rapidly evolving satellite internet landscape, positioning Beijing as a central hub for innovation and development in the commercial space industry.
