The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted illicit drugs worth more than N3.4 billion in intelligence-led operations across several Nigerian states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The seizures included more than 1.3 million pills and capsules of tramadol and other opioids, as well as about 6,000kg of cannabis.
One of the largest seizures involved 1,200 parcels of Canadian Loud, weighing 603.75kg and valued at N1.811 billion.
NDLEA operatives intercepted the consignment at Tin-Can Island Port in Lagos after monitoring a 40-foot container shipped from Montreal, Canada. The container arrived on September 12 and underwent a joint examination with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies four days later.
Officers found the drugs concealed in 31 black jumbo bags inside two Toyota Sienna vehicles.
In Delta State, NDLEA officers also arrested a 49-year-old man, Innocent Ekpe, who allegedly posed as a senior police officer while transporting illicit drugs. Officers recovered 292.48kg of skunk from his vehicle.
The agency also arrested an alleged accomplice and raided an auto-repair workshop in Benin City, Edo State. Officers recovered 48kg of Canadian Loud and 152 grams of methamphetamine from the premises.
The operations covered Lagos, Edo, Niger, Delta, Ondo, Gombe, Imo and the FCT, according to the NDLEA.
