Landslide in Sichuan Province Claims One Life, Leaves 28 Missing

A landslide in southwest China’s Sichuan Province had left one person dead, 28 missing and two injured, local authorities said.

The landslide occurred at 11:50 a.m. on Saturday in Jinping Village, which is located in Junlian County in the city of Yibin.

In response to the disaster, the provincial government has mobilized an extensive rescue operation, deploying 949 personnel from various sectors, including armed police, firefighting units, emergency responders, transportation, medical services, and telecommunications.

Over 200 rescue vehicles and pieces of equipment, such as excavators, fire engines, and ambulances, have been dispatched to the scene to facilitate on-site rescue operations. The search and rescue efforts are currently organized across 10 grid zones to ensure thorough coverage of the affected area.

In light of the landslide, a total of 360 residents from 95 households have been evacuated to safety. Temporary shelters have been established, with 162 individuals currently resettled on a household basis, providing essential support to those displaced by the disaster.

Authorities continue to assess the situation as rescue operations progress, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The community remains hopeful for the safe return of those still missing.
