Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, says China will provide Nigeria with RMB200 million in grant assistance to support the implementation of development projects agreed upon by the two governments.
Ambassador Yu disclosed this during a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Umar Ahmed, in Abuja on Thursday,
The Ambassador said the grant was part of China’s continued efforts to support Nigeria’s national development and economic growth, as the two countries deepen their longstanding bilateral partnership.
He noted that 55 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria, bilateral ties had consistently remained at the forefront of China-Africa relations.
According to him, under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the China-Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has entered a new stage of high-quality development.
Ambassador Yu said both countries had maintained close communication and coordination while working together to implement the common understandings reached by the two heads of state, as well as the outcomes of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit.
He stressed the importance of ensuring that the outcomes of bilateral cooperation translate into tangible benefits for the peoples of China and Nigeria.
The Chinese envoy said the RMB200 million grant would be used for projects mutually agreed upon by the two governments, further demonstrating China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development priorities.
Responding, Dunoma Umar Ahmed expressed appreciation to the Chinese government for its concrete support for Nigeria’s economic and social development.
He said the grant assistance demonstrated China’s sense of responsibility as a major country and reflected the deep friendship between Nigeria and China.
The Permanent Secretary assured that Nigeria would make effective use of the grant assistance and work closely with China to implement the common understandings reached by the two governments on bilateral cooperation.
He added that Nigeria remained committed to further strengthening Nigeria-China friendship and ensuring that the partnership delivers greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.
