Nigeria and China Stenghen Ties to Achieve Economic Prosperity

Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China have reiterated their resolve to strengthen cooperation and partnership in economic development. Ambassador Baba Gana Wakil, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Nigeria in China, made this disclosure during a 12-day seminar in Beijing, China.

The Ambassador noted that the partnership will focus on exchanging experiences and fostering collaboration across various sectors, including trade, energy, finance, customs, and agriculture. He stated that both countries are engaging in joint initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable growth, enhancing capacity building, and creating investment opportunities.

Through this partnership, joint projects are being executed to strengthen human capital and improve economic resilience. This to a larger extent, demonstrates a shared commitment to addressing mutual challenges and achieving development goals.

The seminar, which was born out of one of the outcomes of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed during the Beijing Summit, held in September, 2024, was designed to facilitate productive discussions, share insights, and explore meaningful opportunities for cooperation.

Ambassador Wakil, represented by Mr. Ibrahim Jamilu Abdullahi, the Senior Counselor of the Embassy of Nigeria in Beijing expressed optimism about the potential for Nigeria-China collaboration, stating that by working together, both countries can unlock significant opportunities that will lead to mutual benefits.

”I am optimistic about the potential for Nigeria-China cooperation in promoting economic development. By working together, we can unlock significant opportunities that will lead to mutual benefits, including enhanced trade, increased investments and sustainable economic growth for both countries”, he stated.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Nigerian delegation, Mrs. Clement Okoro of the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, while delivering her remark, expressed great appreciation for the learning opportunity, stating that the knowledge acquired would serve as a guide in directing Nigeria’s economic development strategies.

The seminar featured presentations on various topics, including China’s economic transformation and development strategies, as well as study tours to historical sites, shipping facilities, energy projects, and industrial centers.
