Namibia and China Sign Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement

In a significant diplomatic move, Namibia’s Cabinet has approved a mutual visa exemption agreement between the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security (MHAISS) and China.

This decision was announced by Minister of Information and Communication Technology Emma Theofilus during the country’s first Cabinet briefing of the year on Wednesday.

The newly established agreement will benefit holders of diplomatic and official/service passports from both Namibia and China, facilitating smoother travel and enhancing diplomatic relations between the two nations.

In May 2024, Namibia’s Cabinet had previously authorized the MHAISS to implement entry visa requirements for nationals from countries that had not reciprocated Namibia’s favorable visa policies.

This decision aimed to promote fair and balanced diplomatic relations and impacted 31 countries, including notable nations such as Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Britain, and the United States.

The mutual visa exemption with China marks a positive step towards strengthening bilateral ties and promoting cooperation in various sectors, including trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.
