China will launch a series of television productions to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, according to an announcement made at a State Council Information Office press conference on Thursday. The initiative aims to honor the historical significance of the victory and pay tribute to the sacrifices made during the 14-year conflict from 1931 to 1945.
The lineup includes TV dramas, documentaries, and short dramas, which will highlight the resilience and unity of the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) during the war. Liu Jianguo, deputy director of China’s National Radio and Television Administration, revealed that classic Chinese audio and visual works related to the war will also be rebroadcast on nationwide TV channels and online platforms from July to September. Additionally, nearly 100 films themed on the war will be aired on television through the end of 2025, as confirmed by Wang Xiaozhen, vice president of the China Media Group.
This media initiative is part of a broader array of cultural events planned to commemorate the milestone anniversary. On July 7, a themed exhibition will open at the Museum of the War of Chinese People’s Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in Beijing, featuring 1,525 photographs and 3,237 artifacts. The exhibition, divided into eight sections, will use modern display techniques, including historical footage and immersive recreations, to trace the war’s history and its impact on national revival and global justice.
Further events include an art exhibition from August to September and a series of stage performances from August to October, showcasing outstanding works to honor the victory. A grand evening gala, organized by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and other bodies, is scheduled for September 3 in Beijing to coincide with China’s Victory Day, marking the Japanese Instrument of Surrender on September 2, 1945.
The Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, which resulted in over 35 million military and civilian casualties, was a pivotal part of the global fight against fascism. As the longest and earliest campaign in the World Anti-Fascist War, China’s efforts significantly contributed to defeating Japanese fascism and supporting Allied fronts in Europe and Asia.
In addition to national efforts, the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will host commemorative activities, including a special exhibition in collaboration with the Beijing museum from late August to late September. These events aim to educate the public, particularly youth, about the sacrifices made for national independence.
