Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Visits Nigeria

Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, arrived in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Wednesday, January 8, for an official visit as part of his four-nation African tour, which also includes Namibia, Republic of the Congo and Chad.

Upon arrival, Wang Yi was received by Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other top government functionaries, including H.E. Yu Dunhai, the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria.

The visit aims to bolster bilateral relations between China and Nigeria, with a focus on strengthening cooperation in areas like trade, investment and infrastructure development. Wang Yi’s visit is expected to deepen diplomatic ties, promote mutual understanding and explore new vistas for collaboration.

During his stay, the Chinese Foreign Minister will hold high-level discussions with government officials, discussing pressing global issues, regional security and economic development. Wang Yi is also scheduled to meet with the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar and pay a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deliver a special message from President Xi Jinping.

Wang Yi’s visit underpines China’s commitment to enhancing its partnership with Nigeria, driving economic growth and promoting ties with Africa, with Nigeria being a significant partner in West Africa.
